There are two options for assignment 3:
Choice A: Describe someone who has been dealt a difficult hand but who has played that hand well. It can be someone you know personally, a celebrity, or someone in history or literature. What challenges did this person face, and how did they overcome them? In what ways were their lives "determined" for them? In what ways did they exercise "free will"?
Choice B: Write and essay in which you persuade your reader that free will is dominant over determinism or determinism is dominant over free will. Do we have a large or small amount of control over our own destinies? Do we fool ourselves into thinking we are free while our fate or a supreme being controls most of our moves?
